the story goes that when the nomadic 300 year old vaghari community from gujarat who worship mata, were not allowed to enter temples, they created their own places of worship with illustrations of the mother goddess. these illustrations were their own movable sacred shrines - on pieces of cloth, walls, canvas and wood using nothing but red, white and black natural vegetable dyes.
through the janani collection we bring to you the magic of this age old art form - mata ni pachedi, (behind the mother goddess) on indian mango wood with peacock motifs.
